Setup SSH Server with freeSSHD

Last week I was able to ssh tunnel back to Singapore to watch Singapore TV shows at Xin MSN. I decided to create my own for no obvious reason... yet. I was planning to setup using cygwin, but I found a simplier way, using freesshd. Installation was straightforward.

As for SSH client, I'm using puTTY Tray, a modified version of putty with system tray icon when minized the console windows. The setup took less than 15min to complete. There are 2 known problems with freesshd, depends on luck really. If you setup to start freesshd as system service, it will not create system tray icon where you can edit the settings such as add new user. The problems are:

1.) "The specified address is already in use" after clicked OK at freesshd settings. The solution is to stop the freesshd system service. Personally, i'd removed the service, and create a shortcut in startup folder to auto start it as it will give me the system tray icon.

2.) I got 2 test environment, 1 on my laptop and 1 on my HTPC. Then 1 on laptop works fine without any hurdle. On HTPC, I've setup an user with authorization method as Password Stored as SHA1 hash. When I try to connect to my SSH server on HTPC using putty, it prompted Access Denied with the correct username and password. I'd been googling but found no direct answer to the problem. Then I tried the following: at Authentication tab of freesshd, set password authentication as Required, then Public key authentication as Disabled. With no hope of solving it, I got it working, no more Access Denied!

Great Ikea hack for console wheel

I was looking for a good solution to mount a console wheel that I intend to buy. GameRacer Pro cost around £290 without the wheel. It is good if I got the money to burn. Eventually budget has landed me to this Ikea Hack where the whole configuration set cost less than £60. It does require to drill a hold and several screws to the paddle.

Update: I also came across this wheelstandpro foldable support, cost £85 delivered

Got my belated v-day present, ps3

Thanks to my wife for getting me a PS3 slim 250gb with uncharted 2 and assassin creed 2. This is my 2nd console, but the first that has competitve gaming title. Started to play incharted 2, the display is awesome.

At the same time I got my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD after failing to get a bootable torrent(downloaded 3 times). Hopefully I'm a step closer to build an iPhone app. Going to install the os in vmware 7.

Bought my first baby item, Quinny Buzz 4 2009 model

Back in September, I got a little surprise in life. My wife is pregnant. 4 months on, the baby is developing and each day my wife's tummy is growing. As for me, I've been studying what I need to buy for the baby. 1 of the essential item is pushchair. After much research, we decided to buy Quinny Buzz 4 black. I just ordered from Mothercare for £400. I then called them for a price match with Halfords for £329.99.

This is 2009 model and the pushchair can be used up to 4 years old. On top of that, it can mount a Maxi Cosi car seat which I'll purchase in the coming days.

A short promo clips from Quinny web site.
